How many men know about prostate cancer and the PSA test?
A few days ago I spoke to a long lost friend, I won’t say his name on here but I do want to share our story and the phone call tonight, because tonight’s phone call proves I’m doing the right thing by spreading the message about Prostate Cancer far and wide.
How many of you reading this are aware of Prostate Cancer and it’s rapid rise in becoming the fastest growing cancer of men. It’s estimated that 1 in 8 men will be affected by this cancer and sadly it’s even worse if you are a black man with up to 1 in 4 likely to be affected, these are crazy statistics.
My friend was a holiday rep with me over 25 years ago. We were placed together and formed instant hit and developed an incredibly strong bond, we were always together and shared some amazing experiences together, it was my best season as a holiday rep without a doubt. You know sometimes you meet someone who you just click with in a deep friendly way and every thing just seems so right.
We lost touch as so many of us do, life takes over and does what it does and has been so often in my case I’ve lost track of a lot of good friends I used to have. We all make promises to stay in touch and I truly loved this man like he was a brother but we drifted went down our seperate paths that our universe’s mapped out for us, but we never forgot each other. About a year ago he had been trying to get hold of me and I tried back we sent a few messages but didn’t quite seem to cement the arrangement to connect. The universe works in mysterious ways and tonight after such a long time we spoke again.
It was as if it were yesterday, not a day had passed but it was 26 years later. His voice was the same and instantly I was transported back to Greece where he was my best friend and work colleague. Tonight I felt that exact connection straight away. It turned out he had been following my blogs and being in his 50s decided to have a check up himself. He did the right thing as his PSA test showed a score that although not terrible was concerning and a MRI scan showed some spots around his prostate. He had caught it early and now it was found it will be much easier to control than mine. I had tears in my eyes as he told me this and then even more when he told me without this blog he would never of known what is potentially growing inside him and that by writing this blog I had potentially saved his life. We will speak soon, no doubt about it and I can’t wait till we meet again, we have so many stories to share. Had he not seen my story I doubt we would of reconnected but even more serious is the fact that he might well go on to develop full blown out of control prostate cancer
Men listen to me, don’t take this lightly , don’t be a typical bloke and hide it from the world. If you are showing signs then do something NOW. Don’t wait.
The symptoms
If there is something wrong with your bladder and you notice a change in your weeing or you have sudden back pains or sciatica don’t just hope it will go away because this stuff doesn’t just go away, it’s aggressive once it’s established and it will make you seriously ill very quickly unless you get help.
My symptoms started with mild back pain , then I noticed it took me ages to wee. This all developed quickly over a period of 3 months, if I knew what I know now I feel I could have caught it earlier before it had spread into my bones and caused unrepairable damage in my back.
Please feel free to share this blog, please tell any man you know about this cancer and the PSA test, the more men that know about this serial killer of men then quite simply the less men will die of it. It can be controlled if caught early. Don’t leave it late as I did.
